The Moops: Challenge

September 1st, 2011 by Juan

“The Moops: Combos of Joy”, our single player flash game, was published 10 months ago on almost every flash portal out there. Since then we focused mainly on doing contract work for different clients and establishing HeavyBoat as a “formal” studio. We had to build a structure that could support us financially without having to reach out for investors or loans and keep developing games in the future. Doing that, we stop making our own games.
Until a few months ago when we committed a couple of hours a day to bring that same game to facebook as “The Moops: Challenge” with Atommica as our dear partners.

It grew from the simple idea of “adding a leaderboard” to a “many months long project” with in-app purchases, badges, tournaments, unlockables, powerups, lives, in-game currency, virality features, leveling up character, etc.
We are still new to this kind of projects, I’m just starting to scarp the surface of social games and how players behave and react to different titles. For example I can’t yet figure out how to play FarmVille, there are to many things going on, the UI is hell, takes 15 minutes to go trough the tutorial, I close three popups for each action, objectives pile up, etc.

For what I see, most games on FB are a nightmare to play. We want ours to be a pleasant experience, that’s it. And if you like it, you can throw some dollars in to see what that Nuke Powerup does and how you can use it to boost your scores to the sky leaving all your friends behind in dispare thinking “What I’m doing playing this thing? I should be harvesting right now… What the hell! I’ll play just one more round”.

Maybe we’ll launch next week, who knows.
